Pet Wellness and Preventative Care
Pet wellness and preventative care are key to their good health—and it includes more than just vaccinations! Pets age much faster than we do, which means disease and illness progress much faster as well. Most animals instinctually hide pain, so we recommend regular exams and blood testing to stay on top of your pet’s health and catch any health issues before they become bigger (and more expensive) problems.
In addition to a nose-to-tail physical exam, wellness and preventive care includes the following:
Vaccinations
We customize our vaccine protocol to fit your pet’s specific needs. This customization is based on risk assessment for your pet—simply put, how much risk your pet faces of contracting a specific disease based on age, breed, health and lifestyle.
Blood Tests
These basic screenings check the function of internal organs and can identify diabetes, anemia, dehydration, feline viral diseases (FeLV, FIV) and more.
Parasite Testing
Wellness checks always include fecal testing and blood testing for parasites including heartworm, roundworm, tapeworm, and hookworm.
Dental Exam
By age three, most dogs and cats have some evidence of periodontal (dental disease). Left untreated, it can result in gum infections, tooth loss, pain, and difficulty eating.
Parasite Prevention
External parasites can cause serious illness or even death if untreated. Some parasites are zoonotic, meaning they can also infect people. External parasites include fleas, ticks, mosquitoes (heartworm), sand flies, mites and lice. We carry many products to keep your pet parasite-free, including Interceptor Plus, ProHeart 6, ProHeart 12 and Credelio for dogs, and Revolution Plus for cats. Our veterinarians can help you decide which method of parasite prevention is best for your pet.
With our in-house, state of the art Idexx laboratory, we can quickly and easily perform these tests and get results in just a few minutes, so if treatment is needed it can begin as soon as possible.
If necessary, our on-site advanced diagnostics such as X-rays will help us determine quickly and accurately any illness your pet may have developed.
